Sovereign Management & Legal was set up in Panama in 2002 as a law firm to take advantage of its excellent status as a tax and privacy haven as well as to offer the widest array of offshore services. There are of course many firms that offer similar services, not to mention the countless others that can be easily found on the internet, who do business from a virtual address (usually their corporate registered agent's address), along with an e-fax number and if you are lucky a voicemail number. Once they have sold you an IBC, there is no interest in maintaining any type of relationship - most of the time you cannot even get to talk to anyone! This results in the fact that the vast majority of offshore structures formed never get renewed and therefore are never put to good use. We understand our client's needs and help them to develop their international businesses by connecting them with business and investment options, or by helping them build e-commerce or import/export businesses, so that their investment in the offshore structures does not become another wasted expense.

A Word of Warning About Panama Lawyers

Unlike all but the most serious and prominent lawyers in Panama, she has two additional law degrees obtained outside of Panama as well as having been Professor of Law in an international university.

Why is this important? Only Panamanians can be licenced as lawyers in Panama and it is widely recognized that law schools in Panama turn out poorly educated lawyers. Unfortunately, Panama universities in general are poorly regarded in the eyes of the outside world and in particular its law schools do a poor job in equipping the law student with the tools and knowledge necessary to become a decent lawyer. It is shocking, but true, that a Panamanian can graduate from law school in just three years of very part-time schooling, with evening and Saturday morning classes.

Without the external competition that would come from non-Panamanian lawyers practicing here, as would be normal in most other countries, there are too many incompetent lawyers. Therefore it is imperative you check out the educational background of any lawyer you plan to retain in Panama, and whatever else you may do, avoid those that can only show a Panama law degree and no other additional educational credentials from outside of Panama.

• This account signatory service is done far more efficiently and for considerably less then most other law firms who provide this service. You don't have to wait around for days for a wire to be executed, since a payment order will be executed as if the order had been submitted directly to the bank itself.
  
  
• We keep corporate renewal fees as well as trustee or management fees to a realistic minimum rather then an excessive mark up as is often the case with other offshore providers, who discount the up front incorporation cost and then charge exorbitant amounts for items like Powers of Attorneys, corporate amendments or signatory services.
